Banned on Facebook Marketplace? Here's what you should know.

Apr 7, 2025

This issue is one of those frustrating pain points that can seriously slow down your business. I’ve personally helped dozens of people recover their accounts, and the strategies I’m about to share aren’t based on theory or guesswork.

They’re not something you’ll find in a Meta help article or a quick Google search. These come from real-world experience: I’ve read through hundreds of Reddit threads, worked on countless dealer accounts, and had many back-and-forth conversations with Meta teams. The truth is, most support reps don’t even know this stuff.

If you primarily sell cars on Facebook Marketplace, this insight is for you.

Why It Happens: Facebook is Cracking Down on Real People

Facebook is doing everything it can to ensure that accounts belong to real people. This means your account needs to be:

  • Properly verified (phone number, email, and sometimes ID)

  • Tied to just one Facebook profile (no duplicates!)

  • Not connected to suspicious activity

One of the biggest mistakes dealers make is creating multiple Facebook profiles to post more on Marketplace. While it might seem like a clever workaround, it’s actually a huge red flag to Facebook and violates their Terms of Service.

If your accounts share the same email or phone number, you're asking for trouble.

Watch Out for These Hidden Triggers

Here are some things that can silently sabotage your Marketplace access:

1. Multiple Login Locations

If your account is accessed from different countries or IP addresses, it can raise a red flag. Worse—some countries don’t even have access to Marketplace. If someone logs in from one of those places? Poof, access gone.

2. Old Sessions You Forgot About

Many people don’t realize they’re logged into Facebook on 20+ devices and browsers. Each session stores old data, and when you update your credentials, it can cause conflicts—leading to restrictions or blocks.

3. Posting Tools and Automation

While overposting or using automation tools might contribute, that’s rarely the main issue. Most Marketplace bans are actually a symptom of the deeper problems mentioned above.

How to Recover Your Marketplace Access

If you’re stuck, here’s what actually works—step-by-step:

Step 1: Get Organized
  • Make sure your email and phone are verified.

  • Use a single, clean Facebook profile tied to your name.

  • Remove old, unnecessary logins from your account settings (Security & Login > Where You’re Logged In).

Step 2: Stay Consistent
  • Only log in from trusted devices and locations.

  • Avoid letting multiple people access your account, especially from other countries.

Step 3: Reach Out to Meta the Right Way

This part can be tricky. Clicking "Report a Problem" inside Facebook? You’ve probably tried it. Most of the time, it goes nowhere.

Instead:

  • Go through Facebook Business Manager.

  • Create a support ticket from the Meta Business Help Center.

  • Be specific, polite, and professional in your message.

Final Thoughts

I know how painful it is to lose Marketplace access—especially when that’s your main way of selling. The good news? I’ve used these strategies to recover many accounts. Most people don’t think it’s possible… until it actually works.

Try it. Stay patient. And stay smart about how you manage your account. Hopefully, this gets you back in business.
